I present to you Saturday, April 23rd, the longest day ever. Surprisingly, we actually slept in to begin the longest day ever. Keep in mind that sleeping in for me lately has meant waking up at 5:45 AM instead of waking up around 5:20 AM. So sleeping until around 8 AM was really a long sleep for me. We started at the Arlington Depot Square for the annual Easter egg hunt. Drew did good finding the eggs this year. I wasn't able to go last year, but all I remember from the year before was that he would stop and open the eggs whenever he found a new one. We also saw his karate instructor out there and Drew got to break a board, his first time to get to since his first karate class. I think that is actually his favorite part too. Our friend from church, Amanda, took that first picture below, probably the best picture of the four of us to date. Allie was there also, wearing a beautiful dress given to us by our friend Stephanie. Drew participated in the little Easter parade and they had a few other things for the kids to do as well.
Then we picked up lunch at Lenny's and took it to Jeff and Amanda's house for the kids to play on their playground in the backyard. After a short time there we headed from Arlington to Olive Branch to go to my cousin's second birthday party. Drew took a short nap on the way there to energize himself. After a short time there we were back in the car to head to the Grizzlies game in downtown Memphis. Drew was hopped up on cake and party favors and ready to go once again.
We went with my mom to the game to see the Grizzlies play the Spurs in Game 3 of the first round of the NBA playoffs. It was awesome. We had a blast waving our Growl Towels and cheering the Grizz on to victory. Z-Bo hit what turned out to be a game winning three pointer and we all did the "All I Do Is Win" hands-up victory dance. Drew again fell asleep on the way home to end the night. Oh yeah, from downtown Memphis we had to drive out to Oakland to pick up Allie from my sister before the night was over, making it back to Arlington just before midnight.
More to come on the other Grizzlies' games and the rest of the month of April. I have fallen behind on blogging once again. That tends to happen when one is on call every four nights and also happens to have a growing addiction to Grizzlies playoff basketball. They keep on winning and my habit keeps on getting more expensive. Who would have thought that the Memphis Grizzlies would be vanquishing the shortcomings and heartbreaking beats of the Memphis Tigers. But that's exactly what they did in Game 6 when they won after having lost on that last second three pointer in San Antonio in Game 5. I thought my Memphis teams were cursed until that victory in Game 6. I haven't always gone to a ton of Grizz games and they have been a distant second to the Tigers, but I was there for their first win in Memphis, Katie and I did have a mini pack of season tickets for a couple years, and after not having gone to a game for the last couple of seasons, we made it down for a few this year. Including all 3 home playoff game wins thus far. The Forum has been so electric and it has been so much fun to be a part of this run. I'm hoping we can somehow manage to go to the next two home games as well. My schedule has somehow worked out perfectly so far.
That is given that we are still here and God willin' the Loosahatchie don't rise!
