T-Baller

Drew made his highly anticipated big league debut this week. I told him I had been waiting for this day since we brought him home from the hospital. No pressure or anything. But I really do feel like I've been waiting for this ever since we knew we were having a boy. He definitely didn't disappoint anyone. He was a vacuum out there. He ran after every ball, usually sliding somewhere around the time he got close to it. He was my little Ozzie Smith out there. Nothing got past him. He really did stop a pretty good hit one time too. The other team was a team of older kids who we heard had played together the last couple of years. Their coaches were giving them soft toss to hit instead of hitting of the tee, which we didn't even know was an option. Our head coach was out of town again, so myself and two of the other dad's helped out. It was pretty difficult to keep everyone turned towards the batter and to keep them from playing in the dirt while on defense. Except Drew, he didn't play in the dirt one time.

When they were batting I was on dugout duty, which meant I had to juggle the lineup and keep everyone well behaved over there. There are no outs. Everyone hits each inning and runs one base at time. Except the last batter gets to hit a home run. Overall I would say it was a pretty big success. My only regret is that I was so busy with the dugout crowd that I forgot to watch Drew bat for the first time. Honestly, I didn't get to watch much of him batting or running the bases at all. Luckily Katie got some great pictures of him. He refused to take any posed shots with me before or after the game though. The whole family came to watch him and we went out to dinner afterwards.

He had another game Saturday which I missed due to my obligations at work. It was quite cold Saturday morning and Katie said he spent much of the time in the field crying out that he was cold. That didn't keep him from diving and sliding for every ball though she said. Drew got his wish in that he got to leave the cold t-ball field early so that he could head over to karate where he was being tested to move up to the next belt. Katie said he did great and he was rewarded with his new orange belt. More orange.

I was of course still at work. It has been a tough week at work. I am in the NICU and I have had the two sickest babies in the unit all week. I haven't been sleeping well and have a had allergies and a cold as well. I haven't had much of a voice, but plenty of mucus. It can only get better. Luckily the place is not all that busy overall. It has been a great learning experience as well and I'm now halfway done.

The rest of these pictures are from last Sunday when we went and spent the day with my mom at my parents house. It was a beautiful day and we had a lot of fun outside in the yard and on the playset. The pictures of Allie are mostly from her laying in her play gym or whatever you want to call it. She has started to look at herself in the mirror and reach up and grab the toys. Katie said she has started laughing this week too, although I have yet to hear her, again because I have been at work each time she's done it. I'm sure I will hear it soon enough. Drew has another t-ball game tomorrow. Pictures from that and from karate will be coming soon.

Massive picture update below. Just look at him squatting down on the base! Cutest kid ever!
