What a Week and End

We had quite a busy week. My last two months since starting the Chief position have basically built up to this week and this day. July 1st- when all the new interns start working in all the hospitals across the country. So it was a busy, exhausting, exciting, and rewarding week. And then there was the weekend too. I'll just give a quick rundown. First there was Monday. I don't remember Monday at all. I know during the day we met the new interns for the first time this week. I don't think there was a Monday night. I have no recollection of it at all. Tuesday night I stayed late at work and then met a group of the residents and interns at the Flying Saucer for Trivia Night. We had fun until the 3rd round. The category was "Straights." As in the Bering, Magellan, Gibraltar, and Dire. Those were about the only ones we got right. Wednesday night we hosted a welcome party at the Redbird's game for everyone. We got there early and stayed late. Oh yeah, have I mentioned how hot it was this week also? Drew had a blast meeting everyone and seeing all of his old friends. He watched the game intently and was very happy when the Redbird's hit back-to-back homers to ultimately win the game. Thursday at work was our busiest day, giving the interns their LeBonheur and Peds orientation that day. That night was supposed to be for rest, but we ended up going out to dinner. Friday was more orientation at work and then a welcome party at the house of our program director. It was still hot. Drew again had a blast. We ducked out a little early, had Katie's mom pick up the kids, and went down to Southaven to see the Counting Crows at the Snowden Grove Amphitheatre. It was awesome. Somehow they actually started early and we walked in during their first song, 'Round Here. It was hot as I've said. I really wasn't expecting much, just for them to come out, sing some songs and probably sort of mail it in for the night. It couldn't have been more of the opposite. It was done with as much passion and emotion as they put into everything. They sung a great rendition of the Pure Prairie League classic, Amie, the first time they've sung it since putting it on their last album. The lead singer, Adam Duritz, said multiple times that it was the best show of their tour so far and it seemed hard to argue with that. They started early, played long, and we had an awesome time.

Then we came home Friday night and almost as soon as we walked in our air conditioner unit made a funky noise. It continued to do so through the night and we realized that it wasn't cooling the house anymore. We called the insurance company and the first company they gave us told us that they could come out by Tuesday. So we obviously called the insurance back and got another company, who came out within a couple of hours and fixed everything. So I stayed around the house and the heat for them to get there while Katie took the kids over to the A/C at her mom's house. They got out to run some errands and a kid ended up hitting Katie on Germantown Road near Costco. He was trying to squeeze by her to get in the left lane to turn into Costco. It just kind of scraped her car and she and the kids were all right. I ran up there to get the kids so they didn't have to sit in the heat all day. We hung out at Wendy's while Katie and her mom waited almost two hours for the police to come and do their report. Last night we ate dinner at Gametime with my family then went out to Oakland to see some fireworks. Today I went into work to make sure there were no disasters with all the newbies starting. Luckily, there wasn't. We spent tonight with our Life Group at the Bellevue fireworks show. Back to work in the morning. It's still hot.
