Katie and I celebrated our 3rd wedding anniversary the weekend before last by spending a weekend downtown in good ole Memphis. We stayed at the Peabody Hotel, a place we have both been wanting to stay at but never have. I remember going down there as a little kid and watching the ducks, and of course Katie and I have visited the rooftop as all Memphis couples have done at some point. We had heard the rooms weren't that impressive, but we were both quite pleased with our room and the deal we got on hotwire.com. We spent Friday night eating dinner at Texas de Brazil, which was pretty good considering our last visit was not the experience we had grown accustomed to there.
Saturday morning we slept in late, I read the newspaper and Katie read her book, and we went to Starbucks for coffee and breakfast. It was amazing. Drew did not accompany us and spent the weekend with the grandparents by the way. After a leisurely morning we decided to go to Sun Studios, the great birthplace of rock and roll and Memphis music and such. It was both of our first times to visit and we both enjoyed the tour and the history lesson.
Next, we visited what I think is my favorite place in Memphis, the Dixon Gallery and Gardens. I love going to see the Impressionists' that they have there, and the grounds are beautiful as well. Their special exhibit was called a Passport to Paris, which was French etchings. It was interesting to see the detail and the process, but not exactly what I was expecting I guess. They also have a crystal glass exhibit which Katie enjoyed and I did not hate as much as I thought I would. Oh, they also have these Icelandic statues out on the grounds that I thought were pretty ridiculous looking, although I enjoyed posing with them. We finished the night by driving around old Memphis neighborhoods and eating dinner at Cafe Ole. The rest of the weekend was spent in sweet relaxation. Here are some pictures of our weekend.
