Turns out that yes, I am an uncle. Apparently that's what happens when your brother-in-law and sister-in-law have a baby. Now of course I knew this, but when I first saw Katie after the birth of their baby and she greeted me with a "Hey, uncle," I hadn't even thought about it. I was post-call and just woke up from a two hour nap after being on call for 30 hours though. Chalk this up as the first big family event I have missed during residency. Close to 7 Sunday morning Walter Raymond Hopper was born to proud parents Kyle and Missy. Katie woke up in the middle of the night and drove to Jackson to be with her brother and sister-in-law for the big day. I unfortunately got the text about the birth as I was arriving at the hospital for a 30 hour shift. I think Kyle, Missy, and Walt may have actually left the hospital in Jackson before I got to leave mine here in Memphis. We drove up to Jackson tonight so that Drew and I could get to see Baby Walt, as Drew calls him. He has the longest toes I have ever seen on a baby. Congratulations to the Hoppers! Pictures below.
