Battle of the Bones

A couple of weeks ago we had our second try at BBQ smokin' and more Memphis Football. It was the Battle of the Bones- The Tigers vs. UAB and Memphis BBQ vs. the Birmingham version. This was actually Brad's third go at it with Dang, She's Swine; we missed one in Bolivar while we were at Disney. Him and Sarah got out there super early to get things smoking on a very windy day. We came out a little later in the morning to help finish things up and provide taste testers prior to the game. Drew and I had fun playing football and baseball and getting ready to cheer on the Tigers. We readied the ribs and turned them in at about 1 PM, and then relaxed and enjoyed everything. We got to be on Tiger Lane because of the BBQ contest and saw the Tigers walk in while hanging out with Pouncer and Tom the Tiger.

The game was a different story though. I had actually let myself think that the Tigers could win this one. It looked like they were going to do it, too, leading 35-17 going into the fourth quarter. Then they did what only the Tigers football team can do. They found a way to lose, letting up 24 unanswered fourth quarter points to lose 41-35. You could just see it happening. It was really upsetting and I think it has even changed my mind about head coach, Larry Porter. I was ready to give him a third season at the helm, but after that debacle I think he has to go now. I don't see how next year is going to be any better. As far as the BBQ, only the top three were announced, with the winners crowned on the field at halftime. We didn't make it, but ours were definitely better than the team who came in second. We were next to their tent and they gave us a taste test, which was not very impressive. There's always next year.
