Summer of Baseball

Drew has started and now completed another season of t-ball. We have also gone to see the Redbirds several times this year. And of course we've played plenty of innings in the backyard to round out a summer of baseball. What a difference a year makes. Last we year we had a little kid who slid into every base and slid after every ball. This year we had a little ballplayer who knew what was going on, fielded the ball only when it was hit to him, and ran the bases appropriately. He really did great this year, regularly playing pitcher and first base which are the two busiest spots on a t-ball field. Unfortunately his team was the Yankees, but that was all right. Drew was number 5, which made him Joe DiMaggio. He had a swim party to end the year where he got his trophy and medal as you can see below in the pictures.

Drew and I have been to a couple Redbirds games just by ourselves, sitting out on the bluff and having a great time. Drew loves to go down close to the left field wall and watch with other little kids. He still comes back up the bluff to sit down next to me and talk about the game. When we go with the whole family and sit in the seats he amazes everyone who sits around us with how well he pays attention to the game and how much he knows about it. One night we went and saw the St. Louis Cardinals 2011 World Series Trophy, the second time now that we've been able to do that since Drew was born. We also went on Father's Day with Drew, me, and my dad and got to go out on the field for a father, son, and grandfather game of catch. Because there's nothing quite like dads and sons enjoying baseball together in the summer. We plan on going to St. Louis to see the real thing later in September!

Gigi and Papa enjoyed the summer of baseball too. You could really see Drew's improvement and you could see that he was having a great time.
