Today I headed out to the TPC at Southwind a little later to accommodate my sister who went with me. We got out there at about 10:30 and found a spot on the 4th green where we watched a few groups come through, including Boo Weekley's group among others. Then we watched John Daly's group come through and followed him for a couple of holes before resting on the first green to begin following Phil again. We were just outside of the ropes as he finished the first hole and was walking to the second tee, so he walked by us just a couple of feet away, so that was pretty cool. It also reminded me of a story from yesterday that I forgot to tell. On the sixth hole yesterday Phil went a little right, almost to the path, and so I got to watch him hit basically right in front of me. He said hello to the crowd and talked a little bit. It reminded me of last time he was here when he hit it to about the same place on that same hole and interacted with the crowd in the same way. I thought it was cool.
Anyways, there were so many people following Phil that it was hard to see every shot. We watched him play one and two and then took a break on three to get Pronto Pups! We went back to four and continued to follow him on and off, about every other hole. We picked pretty good, as we got to see all of his birdies, on four, eight, and nine. On the back we did the same, watching him on eleven and then going to sit for a while at 14 before he came through there.
It was while we were sitting there that we began to watch the radar. We saw that there was a large storm making its way from across the river. We had planned to catch back up with Phil, but we thought it was best to just head on out. About halfway to our car we saw lightning and the horn sounded to note that play had been suspended. As everyone was leaving I happened upon a pretzel stand that was giving away their last two hot pretzels since they were closing, so I got a free pretzel. I couldn't finish it without anything to drink because of all the salt though. We made it back to our car before it rained and thought we had done pretty good.
However, Hurricane Elvis Part 2 or Hurricane Priscilla, thought otherwise. We had only made it a little ways before the sky turned dark and the wind really picked up. We turned around to wait out the storm at Sarah's in-laws as the tornado sirens started to go off and tree branches and debris started flying everywhere. Thankfully everyone made it through safely. Our only loss was our poor little tree from our front yard. Sarah and I had to navigate tree branches and powerless traffic lights on our way home. We saw a pretty big tree down on some power lines out around Fisherville. We found Drew and Katie safe and sound at home. The sunset later tonight was just amazing, and although we weren't able to see it from our house, we heard that there was a pretty nice rainbow as well. Hopefully the next couple of days of the golf tournament will hold some nicer weather. At least we have power.
These three aren't my pics, but from fellow Tweeters that I picked up. Beautiful post-storm sky.
