Drew Turns Two

I feel like a bad father today. Here I am blogging about my son's birthday party a whole two weeks after it happened. Plus I was gone on his actual birthday for my interview in Cincinnati. Hopefully he won't remember. Drew turned two on January 5th. We decided to have one more year of only party for friends and family before jumping into the crazy world of adding on another party for all the little monsters as well.

Katie did a great job of finding an Elmo cake and decorations and making a nice spread for everyone as you can see from the picture below. We must have had over 30 people at our house for it, enough that it got so hot that we had to turn the A/C on in the middle of winter. Drew looked like a little boy, no longer a baby, and I think he had a blast. Although our house was still full of new toys from Christmas, he got so many more that I think we could open up a toy store. He got a drawing easel, a crazy Elmo Live, an Elmo music/radio thing, books, movies, a very nice present that Uncle Ricky made to go in his room, a Handy Manny toolbox, an activity center like you see in doctor's offices-probably his favorite, and lots more that I'm sure I'm forgetting.

Drew loved having Happy Birthday sung to him and blowing out his candles; we had to do both at least twice. He dove right into his cupcake from the Elmo cupcake cake-I guess that's what you call it-it was a lot of cupcakes put together to make up a cake. I had put together a DVD of pictures and videos of Drew from the last year that played in the background during the party. It was a little tough on Katie and I to host at our house, because we felt like we didn't get to spend a whole lot of time with the birthday boy while taking care of everything. But we both had a great time and from the pictures it looks like he did too. Even Uncle Jason got a little wild and crazy as usual.

We appreciate everyone coming over to help us celebrate and showing our son so much love. I can't believe he is already two, it's already going by way too fast. He changes so much each week, I wish we could just slow it down and enjoy these times longer. The last six months especially have been so much fun as he has turned into a little boy and really developed new language skills and a personality of his own. I guess it's time to get ready for next year when we will have to have a kids party with all of his friends and have to go to Chuck E. Cheese or rent big bouncy things-these are all the rage for parties as young as one year old's these days. Happy Birthday Drew and here's to another great year!

Our family is blessed to have Drew in our lives - these two years have gone by too fast!

Great pic of Uncle Jason!
