Can you believe that the University of Tennessee has hired the former Ole Miss Coach Ed Orgeron??? Coach O, or Coach Zero, is fondly remembered in these parts for claiming that he was going to build a fence around Memphis and for ripping his shirt off with his "Wild Boys." That will go along well with the stories of Bruce Pearl, the UT basketball coach, who has also reportedly ripped his shirt off in the locker room to fire up his team. He also famously took his shirt off and painted it up to support the women's basketball team a couple years ago. We should have plenty of great stories come out of Knoxville for the next few years. Who could have imagined they would have gotten rid of Fat Phil and replaced him with a staff that includes Coach O? I think I hear the sound of banjos coming from the East.
Orgeron joins Kiffin's staff at Tennessee
Associated Press
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- New Orleans Saints assistant and former Mississippi coach Ed Orgeron is returning to the Southeastern Conference as part of Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin's staff.
Tennessee announced Friday that Orgeron will work as an assistant head coach, recruiting coordinator and defensive line coach.
The native of Larose, La., spent the past season as the defensive line coach for the Saints after being fired by Mississippi, where he coached for three seasons. He has also worked as an assistant at Miami, Syracuse and Southern California.
Orgeron and Kiffin worked together as assistants under USC coach Pete Carroll from 2001 to 2004.
Orgeron worked as recruiting coordinator for the Trojans, with several of his classes ranked in the nation's top five by analysts.
