In anticipation of the impending Ice Death '09, Katie made some delicious chili tonight that was excellent with a touch of cheese, a healthy dose of crackers, and a nice cold beer. But to my story, last night Katie and I went to a reception for the graduating students going into Peds and Med-Peds. As the night was winding down one of the residents commented about how it was about that time of night that his couch was calling him and that he was going home to lay on said couch with his dogs. This resonated very strongly with me, for I love the very couch that I am typing from right now. I bought it before my junior year of college out of necessity since our previous couch basically died from exstuffingation. It followed me to my room when I moved off campus my senior year, and has been in the den at our house since then. If it was up to Katie I'm sure it would be banished to my office room here at the house, but so far I have successfully protested. I'm sure that battle will go the other way once we have a little bit more money to get a new one. When that day comes I will most assuredly move it into the office rather than discard it. It is the most comfortable couch and absolutely perfect for that mid-afternoon nap. Now that we no longer have a TV in our bedroom I have also found myself falling asleep on it more at night while I watch some late night shows. And although I don't do it enough anymore, I have always enjoyed having Bella fall asleep at my feet on the couch. However, I am longing for the day when I can have a big dog join me on my couch-don't tell Bella. Katie and I saw Marley and Me over the weekend and that just served to reinforce my requests for a big dog. Maybe once we are past Match Day and find out where we will be we can look to getting one. Hopefully the Ice Death will hit and I can hunker down tomorrow on my couch with my coffee and my dog and another serving of some leftover chili, while thinking of names for a lab, retriever, or some other big dog. Below Drew and I demonstrate the napability of the couch back when he was a little guy.
