137-14 (.907)

Although it may seem like it, this is not the record of the Harlem Globetrotters versus the hapless Washington Generals. This is, in fact, the record of the Memphis Tigers for the past four years and the career record for the three seniors, Antonio Anderson, Robert Dozier, and Chance McGrady. No, this has never been done before. This is a record for the most wins in NCAA history for these three men-at least until next year, as it may be surpassed by the seniors from that class. These numbers are similar to ones that would be seen on a Playstation game. They are unfathomable and incredible. This includes 4 straight CUSA regular season championships, 4 straight CUSA tournament championships, while going 73-1 in conference play over this time, 2 Elite Eights, 1 Final Four, and 1 Sweet Sixteen appearance. A few more stats:
  • Anderson played in 150 games, a school record, and second in NCAA Division 1 history by one game
  • At 1,276 points Anderson ranks 17th all-time at the U of M
  • At 537 assists Anderson ranks 5th all-time at the U of M
  • At 217 steals Anderson ranks 4th all-time at the U of M
  • At 1,380 points Dozier ranks 14th all-time at the U of M
  • At 961 rebounds Dozier ranks 6th all-time at the U of M
  • At 228 blocks Dozier ranks 4th all-time at the U of M
Although we would have loved for this team to go farther in the tournament, I think we would have all been happy with a Sweet Sixteen at the beginning of the season and especially after the 6-3 start and after losing CDR, Dorsey, and Rose to the NBA. Of course a 27 game winning streak raised our expectations a bit, and with a better draw this team might have cracked the Elite Eight, but Mizzou outplayed us at our own game. This team got me back into Tiger basketball after I didn't want to talk about it for a long time after the way last year ended. Now we just have to find a way to keep Coach Cal from leaving for Kentucky and taking all of his recruits with him. If this was a rebuilding year I can't wait to see next year with all the fresh talent we have coming in here. The Tigers should make it back to the Final Four and hopefully compete for a championship again!
