Sister Hazel @ Minglewood Hall

Katie and I kicked off the Madness Thursday night! We started with dinner at the original Huey's, where we watched the Tigers knock off Tulane for the second time in a week. I was also able to enjoy a couple glasses of Ghost River beer, which as I have noted before is a pretty good local brew. Then we ventured to Minglewood Hall at about the opening act, Michelle Malone, was getting started, and she turned out to be pretty good. As soon as we walked in we noted that this was an all ages show, and I mean all ages. There were kids as young as probably twelve there and a few people that would almost qualify as elderly as well. The biggest problem with the all ages show was all the high school students there who don't quite now how to act in public yet.

Sister Hazel was awesome as usual. They played most of their classic songs that they play at all of their concerts. They also played one of the lead singer's songs from his new solo album, Drift by Ken Block. They closed out with a cover of Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic from The Police. We have seen them over a dozen times now and this was a pretty good show as they go. We were able to be pretty close with the set up at Minglewood Hall. It was a pretty nice place, definitely something Memphis needs, but I hope they are not quite done with the set up. I guess I was thinking something more along the lines of the New Daisy. There wasn't any fixed seating, just round tables with folding chairs and makeshift bars at this point. But it was a great atmosphere, had great sound, and is in a great location. We look forward to going to many more concerts there starting with our local favorite Amy Lavere who plays there April 19th.

We made it home around the end of the second OT of the UConn/Syracuse game. What an epic classic. It ended about 12:30 AM Central Time after six OTs with Syracuse pulling out the upset. It was quite fun to watch.

The wedding is today!
