Next year had a chance to be really special. We would have started the season ranked in the top 5 and been legitimate contenders for the national title. Instead we will struggle to win Conference USA. For the time being we can say goodbye to 1 and 2 seeds in the NCAA tournament, goodbye to Elite Eight's, and goodbye to landing top recruits. We all knew this day would come, but unfortunately it will come all too soon and on the cusp of greatness. Forever we will be left to wonder about what could have been for the 09-10 season. The long term question is who will replace Cal. The short term question is who will we even have left for next year.
Thanks, Cal, for all you have done for the basketball program, the school, and the city. No one can blame him for taking the job at Kentucky and all that money. I wish him the best.

You are being very gracious. I'm having a difficult time dealing with this -
Looks like I'm taking a piece of Memphis with me to Lexington! Sorry for your loss.
Glad to see you are handling this well. I hope the rest of your city does. I'm kind of expecting riots when it becomes official.
Well said...he only did what most people would do. Memphis has so many
good memories with him and should Thank him for those.
Enjoy him up in Lexington, Sarah, I'm sure he'll be a winner there. It's a sad day, but no rioting here. We never thought we would have him for nine years and he has done so much here. He didn't leave in the middle of the night-he came back and gave a classy press conference. It's just awful timing considering next year though.
