Today was my first day of two weeks on Pediatric Neurology at LeBonheur. Quite an exciting day.
- 9 AM: Saw a head CT of a baby girl that had very little brain, but had a brainstem. Thus she looked quite normal, was breathing fine, and eating. Unfortunately, she will not function and live for several years or more.
- 11 AM: Received an email from the matching people with the subject line: Did I match? Turns out I did. These are the same people who sent out an email last week with the subject line: Scramble Advisory. Talk about scaring some med students. We found out today whether or not we matched so that the people who didn't can scramble into a spot somewhere. Still have to wait until Thursday to find out where I matched.
- 12 PM: Witnessed a patient we were consulted on five minutes ago have a seizure. Pretty intense, especially with the way the mom and patient were freaking out. Not that I can blame them.
- 3 PM: Upon starting afternoon rounds a patient that was not ours coded on the floor. We rushed in but were quickly relieved by the code team. The patient made it, but codes are never good at a children's hospital.
